M. Douglas Goines was born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina and graduated from East Mecklenburg High School in 1965. He received an undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill with a BS degree in Business Administration in 1969. He then served two and one-half years in the United States Army as a Lieutenant in the Military Intelligence Corps. He obtained his Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Georgia, Athens, Georgia in 1972. He then graduated from Wake Forest University Law School in Winston Salem, North Carolina, Cum Laude, in 1975.
Doug commenced the general practice of law in Charlotte, North Carolina but relocated to Carteret County to become the general counsel for the Conner Homes Corporation in 1979. He served in that position until 1987 when he engaged in the private practice of law in Carteret County, North Carolina and has remained in private practice ever since.
Doug currently serves on the corporate board of the Boys and Girls Club of Coastal Carolina and is a past president of that organization. He serves on the executive committee of the Downtown Morehead City Revitalization Association and the past president of that organization. He has been a Rotarian since 1987 and is a past president of two Carteret County Rotary Clubs. He is the past president of the Carteret County Bar Association and the District 3 Bar Association. He has served on the Board of Directors of the North Carolina Seafood Festival and was the chairman of the 20th annual festival in 2006.
He is an active member of his church and enjoys walking, reading, crossword puzzles and shooting handguns.
