Carteret County Attorneys
Doug was born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina and graduated from East Mecklenburg High School in 1965. He received an undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill with a BS degree in Business Administration in 1969. He then served two and one-half years in the United States Army as a Lieutenant in the Military Intelligence Corps. He obtained his Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Georgia, Athens in 1972. He then graduated from Wake Forest University Law School in Winston Salem, North Carolina, Cum Laude, in 1975.
Doug commenced the general practice of law in Charlotte, North Carolina, but relocated to Carteret County to become the general counsel for the Conner Homes Corporation in 1979. He served in that position until 1987 when he entered in the private practice of law in Carteret County, North Carolina and has remained in private practice ever since.
Doug currently serves on the advisory Board of the Sunshire Lady Boys & Girls Club of Morehead CIty, NC and is a past president of that organization. He has been a Rotarian since 1987 and is a former president of two Carteret County Rotary Clubs. He is a former president of the Carteret County Bar Association and the District 3 Bar Association. He has served on the Board of Directors of the North Carolina Seafood Festival and was the chairman of the 20th annual festival in 2006.
He is an active member of One Harbor Church and enjoys walking, reading, crossword puzzles and shooting handguns.
Julie G. Wickizer
Julie was born and raised in Ocala, Florida. After graduating law school in Georgia, she moved to Morehead City, where she has practiced her entire career. Julie concentrates her practice on all areas of real estate, focusing on residential real estate purchases and refinances.
Julie received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Central Florida. She graduated from the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University in 2006, and joined the firm in 2008.
Julie currently serves on the Paralegal Advisory Board at Carteret Community College and is a member of the College’s adjunct faculty. She is a graduate of Leadership Carteret. She is also Secretary/Treasurer of the Carteret County Bar Association and an ex-officio member of the North Carolina Seafood Festival, after serving two full terms. She is a member of St. Egbert Catholic Church. She is a past board member of Crystal Coast Habitat for Humanity.
Julie enjoys spending her free time with her husband and their two dogs, whether on the boat, at the beach or in the mountains. She enjoys watching SEC football, reading a good book, and traveling.
Erin B. Meeks
Erin was born and raised in Garner, North Carolina, but she got to Carteret County as fast as she could! Erin received her bachelor’s degree with honors from Meredith College. She graduated from The Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law at Campbell University and joined the firm in the summer of 2008.
Erin returned to private practice in 2015 after several years representing the Carteret County Department of Social Services in child support and child protective services matters. Erin now concentrates her practice on all areas of family law: separation and divorce, custody, child support, spousal support, property distribution, domestic violence, termination of parental rights, and adoption.
Erin currently serves on the Paralegal Advisory Board at Carteret Community College. She is also the Vice President of the Carteret County Bar Association and is a graduate of Leadership Carteret. Erin is a past member of the Executive Council of the North Carolina Bar Association Young Lawyers Division and recipient of the Young Lawyers Division Young Lawyer of the Quarter Award. Erin’s favorite community activity is playing on the firm’s trivia team, The Bee Gees, in the annual trivia bee fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Club of Coastal Carolina.
In her free time, Erin takes advantage of living in a coastal community and heads to the beach. She also enjoys traveling the South, listening to live music, watching college football, and spending time with her husband and their two children.
